Tenerife
Why February?
February is Carnival month on Tenerife — the famous Santa Cruz Carnival is the largest in Europe and one of the most spectacular carnival events outside Rio de Janeiro. The parades, costumes, and street parties run for the best part of two weeks. Even for those not interested in Carnival, February is one of the most comfortable months to visit: temperatures are warm and stable, rain is rare, and the crowds are manageable. The half-term school holiday in mid-February pushes prices up for about a week, but outside half-term, February offers excellent value compared to the summer peak.
Who it suits
Couples escaping the February gloom, families using the half-term week, Carnival enthusiasts who want a genuine European carnival experience, and walkers who want the Anaga and Teno rural parks at their most dramatic (occasional low cloud in the mountains is a feature, not a bug). Not ideal for beach-only travellers who prioritise very warm sea temperatures — the ocean is around 19°C in February.

Honest warning: Half-term week (typically the third week of February) is the most expensive week for Tenerife throughout the entire year. Book 12+ weeks in advance for that specific week. During Carnival period, accommodation in Santa Cruz itself can be very hard to find. If you want to attend Carnival, book accommodation in the capital and accept higher prices.
