Why January?
Tenerife is the most reliable winter sun destination available from all 18 UK airports. January sits in the middle of the Canarian dry season — daytime temperatures reach 21–23°C consistently, evenings drop to around 15°C, and rain is rare. Mount Teide dominates the interior with a snow-dusted peak that provides a striking backdrop to warm coastal resorts. The south of the island (Los Cristianos, Las Américas, Costa Adeje) is driest and warmest; the north (Puerto de la Cruz) is greener and slightly cooler. For sightseers, January is ideal — paths around the volcano are uncrowded and the famous Anaga Rural Park walks are at their best in mild winter conditions.
Who it suits
Families escaping the January gloom, couples on a winter break, and retirees seeking a long stay at lower prices than peak summer. Those who want to combine beach time with active walking will find January particularly rewarding. January is not the month for nightlife tourists — the resort strip is quieter than July but still functional.

Honest warning: The Tenerife South resort strip (Los Cristianos and Las Américas) is very package-holiday oriented. If you want more authenticity, stay in the north around Puerto de la Cruz or the characterful village of Garachico. January is peak season for long-stay British retirees, so resorts can feel different in demographic to summer.
